August Thrift Store Finds - Style on a Budget

I don't know about you, but I love shopping at my local vintage and thrift shops, especially when I find great deals! I went shopping last week, and came across these tops. I checked the sleeves, necklines, bottom hemlines, armpits and for any staining throughout, and these passed the test. Five fun tops, and the damage was only $10! Score!

Top Left: Black and Gold #37 UCF Tee - Go Knights!
Growing up in Central Florida, the Knights have always been in everything I've heard throughout my time in school. I have attended lots of music concerts and performances, and a few math competitions (yes, I was a math-nerd) at UCF, and have several friends whom have gone to and graduated from here as well. This will be a great tee to sport this fall for the upcoming football season, and as for the #37? Well, I guess I will have to come up with a story for it. Hehe.
By the way, have you seen my Crocheted Football Beanie? I worked it up to wear to a friend's Super Bowl Party two years ago, and have found it quite handy for football season, and even wore it to my niece's flag football game when she was in high school. You can click the link above if you are interested in purchasing one.

Top Medium: Olive Green Lace Up Blouse from Chico's - BRAND NEW! What?!
This blouse is a great transition top from Summer into Fall with the Olive color. It's made of 100% cotton making it nice and lightweight - important for hot Florida weather - and it's so soft! This top is brand new with tags still attached. Retail is $36.95 - WOW! I really love the Y-Neckline here which features a small lace up design highlighted with silver colors tie ends and eyelets. One thing I found to be quite odd was that the top is noted as a size "0", but wears like a Medium size. I almost didn't pick it up because I saw "0".

I found a similar blouse on Amazon (shown above). This Short Sleeve Plunge Lace-Up French Terry Top from Shopglamla is available in sizes Small, Medium and Large, and in 7 colors. I will admit that the plunge is a little much, but with a cami underneath, it looks really comfy and lightweight.

Top Right: Orange Floral and Blue Embroidered Sleeveless Top from Talbot's
The moment I saw this top, I knew it'd be a great Summer top! This sleeveless top features bright orange flowers and calm blue embroidery at the shoulders and down the neckline, as well as bits of blue throughout in the floral pattern. Bottom hem is rounded, which makes it think it would be really cute with a pair of lightweight leggings - like these Ultra Soft High Waisted Jersey Leggings from Joni Fashion? - and some cute small heels, or a pair of white capris and some cute sandals.

Bottom Left: Purple and Blue Abstract Tee from Simply Vera
A few things grabbed my attention about this top: 1.) Vera Wang!; 2.) The beautiful purple, blue and green abstract splatter pattern; 3.) The long hemline along the bottom of the top - it's about two inches or so. This top is made of 100% cotton making it nice and lightweight, and a great top to pair with some jeans for a casual, laidback day.

Bottom Right: Blue and Green Floral Tee from Charter Club
I just LOVE the floral pattern on this blouse! This top has a white background with blue, green and purple flowers throughout. This top is comprised of 100% Pima Cotton - so soft, and cool to wear! I am picturing this top being worn with a pair of white capris or shorts.

Though not a tee, I found this really pretty and fun Fit and Flare Summer Tank Dress from Zeagoo that features a small floral print and is olive green, but there are 6 other pattern designs available, and this dress is available in Small through Extra Large.

Whisperwind Doily-Inspired Rug - Crochet Pattern Review - Draiguna

*This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase by clicking on them, I made a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support!
Last week, I received an email with the release of the free crochet pattern for the Whisperwind Doily. I loooovvveee the way doilies look! But... I hate blocking, and therefore doilies can't really be on my list if made in crochet thread unless I give in and start blocking. With this doily though, I decided that I wasn't going to let this one pass me by too. Instead, I worked it holding four strands of worsted weight yarn together, and turned the design into an accent rug, and it's lovely!

Are you a Raveler? Make sure to favorite and share your version of this Whisperwind Doily!

Materials I Used:
     - 1092 Yards of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn - Four 3/4 Skeins - in the Aran colorway
     - P16/11.5mm Crochet Hook - I bought this Jumbo Plastic Crochet Hook Set, which included the P16 & a Q hook in one!
     - #18 Tapestry Needle
     - Whisperwind Doily, Free Crochet Pattern with Photo Tutorial from Draiguna

Material Notes:
The options are quite open for this. I would stick with something heavy weight though. If going with four strands of worsted weight yarn as I have done, I would suggest Caron One Pound and Bernat Super Value as alternatives, however, you could also do Lily Sugar n Cream - I'd probably try 5 strands held together - or even two strands of a Super Bulky #6 Yarn - perhaps Wool Ease Thick n Quick, not Hometown USA.

Time Spent:
I had my rug ready to go in three hours.
Measurements:
From point to point, my rug measures 35" across.

Pattern Notes:
This pattern was so easy to read, follow and memorize, plus the photos to reference are a plus. I only have three little things about this pattern, otherwise, I would love to work up many in several colors, and experiment with other yarn weights to see what other kinds of projects can be created with this pattern.

Would you like to see anything specifically worked up using this pattern? I love your suggestions and feedback! Drop me a line below!

1.  In the Foundation Row, I worked the last chain as a chain 3 - similar to how I work my last chain of the foundation row of a granny square as a chain 2 instead of 3, because if not, the shape is off in this corner just for the first row.

2.  Round 8 ends as "...single crochet in the next space]..." but the last stitch should end at the chain 3 beforehand and join to the first single crochet, which takes the place of the last stitch.

3.  Round 9 states to end at the "**", but I found that I ended at the "2x" repeat, and then joined. Just follow along with the pattern, and it will come naturally.
And that's it! I highly recommend this pattern! The writing is awesome, and the pattern produces a lovely doily, or doily-inspired rug in this case.

Granny Square Tank Top & Happily Hooked Magazine Issue #40

Photo Courtesy of Happily Hooked Magazine.
Yay! This is the eighth post of the year for the 2017 GrannySpiration Challenge! I am so excited to see what everyone has been working on, especially you! At the end of this post, you will find the information for this month's giveaway, and link up.

This month, I am sharing with you my latest published design that can be found in Issue 40 of Happily Hooked Magazine - my Granny Square Tank! When I first saw the call for Lightweight designs, I knew I wanted to work up a top. I kind of still have an idea of a blouse based off this design, but when I was putting it together, it seemed to be a better fit for lightweight and lacy. Working with a yarn such as Modern Cotton DK, is an even better option for hot weather. I plan on ordering some to try out another tank more suitable for Florida.

Being that the tank top is made from a back and a front sewn together, it has more give than a top worked in the round. I designed this top one inch smaller in both pieces to finish with the 2" of negative ease noted, but there is more that can be given to make a more fitted top. By omitting one more round from each square, you can achieve this.
