Granny Square Soap Cozy (or Small Gift Bag!) - Free Crochet Pattern

Yay! This is the fourth post of the year for the 2017 GrannySpiration Challenge! I am so excited to see what everyone has been working on, especially you! At the end of this post, you will find the information for this month's giveaway, and link up.

This soap cozy (or cute little gift bag) has been a WIP of mine since June of last year (2016). The only thing waiting to be done was to sew in the ends - ugh! Can't believe I let it sit for so long, but thanks to this challenge, I have dug it out and completed it - one of the things I wanted out of this challenge, which is awesome! I have a few more soap cozies to share that were also sitting with this one awaiting the ends to be sewn in. You will see them real soon!

Fun Fact: In reference to the photo that shows my granny square cozy with two facial scrubbies and homemade soap towards the end of the post - the scrubbies and soap were gifts from my friend Milena of Milena's Place :) :) :)
Left to Right, Top to Bottom: Granny Fingerless Gloves from Rhelena, Granny Square Cozies from Mariam's Creations: Recycle and Create, Granny Square Curtain from Atelier Marie-Lucienne, Spring Colored Bag from Hakelfieber, Bella Cushion from Kat Kat Katoen, No Twist Granny Square from Crochet is the Way and my Life's a Beach Hat.

Please make sure to stop by our other co-host and see what they've been working on too. In the image above, you'll find their projects (and mine) from last month's challenge.

I wanted to give a special shout out to our newest co-host - Welcome Mariam from Mariam's Creations: Recycle and Create!!

And to mention that Rachel from The Philosopher's Wife is taking a break from the challenge, and blogging at the moment. If you get a chance, I'm sure she'd love to receive a message from you full of positive thoughts :)

Materials I Used:
     - About 50 Yards of Worsted Weight Cotton - I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Hot Green and Mod Blue
     - H8/5mm Crochet Hook
     - #18 Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends

Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Bernat's Handicrafter, Lion Brand's Kitchen Cotton, Peaches n Cream, Crafter's Secret

Time Spent:
I had my cozy ready in about 45 minutes.

4.5" Wide by 5.75" Tall; 16" Long Tie

     16 HDC by 10 Rows = 4"

     SC - Single Crochet
     HDC - Half Double Crochet
     DC - Double Crochet

Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain 1 does not count as a stitch, but beginning chain 2 and 3 do.

Join to the first stitch unless otherwise stated.
The way I worked my color change: I worked all the way around up to the join. I inserted my hook into the first stitch, pulled Color B over my work so I could work over it and completed the slip stitch. I did the same thing in the next  stitch. At the space, I inserted my hook into the space, dropped Color A, picked up Color B and then completed the slip stitch and continued on to the next round. Working in this manner allows you to neatly carry up the colors through the piece and makes it a clean color change. I do have a photo tutorial you can see of this - How to Carry Up Yarn in the Round
Alternatively, you can fasten off at the end of each round, and join your new color into the space but this will create many ends to weave in later. OR, you could work all of the cozy in a solid color and not have to worry about color changes. Just join to the first stitch at the end of the round, slip stitch over to the space, and begin again.

I am referring to my colors as I have used them, but basically you just need two colors for the pattern I used. You could use as many as you like, or just one. Completely up to you!

In Blue, Chain 15. 2 HDC into the 2nd chain, and the next 12, 3 HDC into the last chain, HDC into the next 12 along the opposite side of the foundation chain, HDC into the 1st stitch. Join. (30 HDC)

R2: Chain 1. (3 DC into the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches) 10x. Join. (10 clusters)

R3: Slip stitch over to the chain space, and pick up Green. Chain 2, 2 DC into the same space, (3 DC into the next space) 9x. Join.

R4: Slip stitch over to the chain space, and pick up Blue. Chain 2, 2 DC into the same space, (3 DC into the next space) 9x. Join.

R5: Slip stitch over to the chain space, and pick up Green. Chain 2, 2 DC into the same space, (3 DC into the next space) 9x. Join.

R6 - 9: Repeat Rounds 4 and 5.

R10: Slip stitch over to the chain space, and pick up Blue. Chain 2, 2 DC into the same space, (3 DC into the next space) 9x. Join.

R11: Slip stitch over to the chain space, and pick up Green. Chain 2, 2 DC into the same space, (3 DC into the next space) 9x. Join with Blue to the 2nd chain of the beginning chain 2.

R12 - 14: With Blue, Chain 1. SC in the 1st stitch, and each stitch around. Join. (30 SC)

Fasten Off, and Weave in End/s.

With Green. Chain 2, 4 SC into the 1st chain. Join to the 1st SC. Chain 62, 4 SCs into the 2nd to last chain. Join to the 1st SC.

Fasten Off, and Weave in Remaining Ends.
Weave the tie in and out of Round 11. No crochet hook needed to weave in this tie. Both of my ties came out of the center hole to keep it all even.

This Month's Giveaway is sponsored by myself! One winner will receive two skeins of Baby Bee's Sweet Delight Yarn in the Splash colorway. I love this lightweight yarn! I have used it in several projects. It machine washes and dries well, wears beautifully and the best part is the wide variety of color options always available at my local Hobby Lobby. This Splash colorway has become a new favorite of mine, so I thought I'd share :)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Must be 18 or older to enter. Open to all countries. Void where prohibited. Winner has 48 hours to respond to email notification, or another winner will be chosen. Myself of EyeLoveKnots is responsible for prize fulfillment.
The three most viewed projects from last month's challenge can be found in the image above. From left to right, top to bottom: Ruffle Crochet Scarf from Anabelia Handmade, Lacy Granny Square Cross Square from Creative Crochet Workshop and Joining Granny Squares from Loes Hobbies.
