Yesterday (January 6th) was Three Kings Day, a widely celebrated holiday in the Hispanic community. You can find more on it below, but before I go into that... I had to work. I wanted to give my co-workers a little something in celebration. They loved their Mug Cozy and Coaster Gift Sets, and were really caught off guard. It was neat to share this holiday with them, and open their eyes to it.
Tomorrow, I will be posting the free crochet pattern for the Slanted Shell Coaster, and on Friday, you can tune in for the free crochet pattern for the Slanted Shell Mug Cozy.
After reading about Three King's Day, you will find a couple photos showing how I assembled these mug sets.
These sets are great to give as a Neighbor Gift, to a Teacher, Co-Worker or any other time you may need just a cute, little quick gift.
So, what is Three King's Day?
On January 6th, the Hispanic community celebrates Three King's Day, or El Dia de Los Tres Reyes Magos. It's a widely celebrated holiday deriving from the Christian feast day of Ephiphany. It's said on this day, the Three Wise Men found baby Jesus, and brought him gifts in recognition of his divine nature.
To celebrate, on January 5th, children go outside to collect some grass to put in their empty boxes (I always used a puzzle box), and then leave it under their beds. This grass is for the camels to feast on as the Three Kings visit, similar to leaving out carrots for Santa's reindeer.
I can still remember waking up many Three King's Day mornings excited to see that the camels had enjoyed (and made a mess of) the grass, and to open my one gift.
First I placed the coaster against the wall, with a packet of hot
chocolate in front of that, and then dropped in the peppermint candies.
|And then I added some notecards with my above Three King's Day message.|
Happy Day After Three King's Day!
Don't forget to tune back in over the next two days for the free crochet patterns found in this mug gift set.
