Ceramic Tile Coasters! For St. Patrick's Day, Spring, and Easter

I have been trying to build up my Etsy shop with new things. I came across a pin from Design Improvised and decided to further investigate the site. Haeley has such cute and simple crafts that don't take very long or break the bank.
While searching, I came across a post on Coasters, with full Tile Tutorial provided through The Cottage Mama.

Since I was at work when I was looking around, I pulled up Lowe's website and searched for the price of the bathroom tiles. SIXTEEN CENTS EACH?! Must do!

I first made a trip to my local Hobby Lobby store and went down the aisle with single patterned papers and picked aaaaaallllllllllllll of the pages that looked like they could be for St. Patrick's Day (March 17th), Spring (March 20th - June 21st) and Easter (April 20th) - 41 sheets in total and 50% off each one!
I also picked up some Mod Podge. I had never used this before, nor did I know which one to buy when I got there. I ended up getting the one that was a multi-surface type - Classic Matte I believe. After I got home, I found a Guide courtesy of Amy at Mod Podge Rocks. I think I made the right choice.

A trip to Lowe's followed Hobby Lobby to get my tiles.

And then home to start!!

The tutorial was very easy to follow. The most difficult part was the waiting in between coats.

The coasters have been tested and are a success! And now up for sale in my Etsy shop! There are ssssoooooo many paper choices. I welcome custom orders! And feel free to mix and match.

*Not set up yet, but custom photos will also be available soon on the coasters as well. Even though, the process is the same, I want to test out the paper thickness before adding this to my shop.

Rather than have a super long post here, I decided to break it up into 4 posts: This one, Coasters for St. Patrick's Day, Coasters for Spring, and Coasters for Easter. Many more to come. If anything, they will make great gifts! And on my own dining room table.

Ceramic Tile Coasters for St. Patrick's Day - Up on Etsy!

Each coaster is 4.25" x 4.25". They are handmade with ceramic tile, scrapbook paper and Mod Podge. Click the following links to find the full Tile Tutorial courtesy of Lindsay at The Cottage Mama.
The coasters have been sealed with an Acrylic Sealer to make them water resistant. Keep in mind, they are not water proof. They are not dishwasher safe and should not be submerged in water. Rather, they should be wiped off with a damp washcloth.

The backs are fully covered in felt to protect the coasters when stacked, and surfaces while in use.

They have been tested by myself with a cold beverage and a hot beverage and have successfully passed the test.

These coasters make a great gift! And also look great on your table or desk.

Valentine's Day Inspired Crochet Child Pink Shell Hat FREE Pattern

I was on a Valentine's Inspired kick. With it came a lot of working projects at once, and now I'm slowly getting them finished up, edited and posted.

I made this hat to fit my 5 year old niece, Kayliss.

Materials:
-1 ball of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Vanna's Choice in Pink Poodle
*Optional: a little White yarn for embellishment
-Size I9/5.5mm Hook
-Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends

Measures to fit a child's head - 19" - 20.5", but can be customized for any size! You would just increase or decrease as necessary, and add a few or subtract a few rows.

Abbreviations:
CH - Chain
DC - Double Crochet (American, not British)
SC - Single Crochet
sp - Space
sk - Skip
ea - Each

Pattern:

CH 4. 12 DC in 1st CH. Join to first DC and pull ring closed. (12 DC)
Row 2: CH 2. 2 DC in 1st DC, and ea around. Join. (24 DC)
Row 3: CH 2. (1 DC in 1st DC, 2 DC in next DC) around. Join. (36 DC)
Row 4: CH 2. (1 DC in 1st 2 DC, 2 DC in next DC) around. Join. (48 DC)
Row 5: CH 1. (1 SC in 1st 6 DC, 2 SC in next DC) around. Join. (54 SC)
Row 6: CH 2. DC in 1st SC and ea SC around. Join (54 DC)
Row 7: CH 2. 3 DC into 1st sp (under join), (sk 2 sps, 3 DC into next sp [shell created]) around. Join. (18 shells)
Row 8 - 11: Repeat Row 7.
Row 12 - 13: CH 1. SC in 1st DC and ea DC around. (54 SC)

I debated between a heart or a bow.

Emi of the Hectanooga1 channel, has a great video for a cute little heart. It's called the Easiest Crochet Heart, and it really is! It works up in less than 5 minutes and with different sized crochet hooks you can have a large variety of them in no time!

Little Bows, Candy Corn Set
I choose to go with a bow for this one. I will have to write down the pattern next time I make one - as I took this white one out of my personal hair collection (from my Little Bows Candy Corn set - Available for sale in my Etsy shop). Update to come.

**Please feel free to make and sell this scarf, but please DO NOT claim this pattern as your own nor should you sell my pattern, and DO NOT re-publish my photos as your own.

This Valentine's Day Inspired Chid Pink Shell Hat is available for purchase in my Etsy shop. Size and color are completely customizable so don't be shy to ask! Here, you can find the color options.

I welcome custom orders, adjustments and/or challenges.

My ArtBeads Have Arrived!

This Make a Vertebrae Bracelet project was a recommended video to watch on YouTube from the Potomac Bead Company. I LOVE to make my own jewelry but haven't yet gotten into the sewing of seed beads and such. I watched the whole video and it looks easy enough to follow, so wish me luck!

The beads and clasps arrived wrapped up so nicely!
And arrived fairly quickly - in  two to three
days. Of course I ordered on Saturday though,
so I had to wait a few extra days.

Center Bottom (and Bottom Right): Miyuki Metallic Rainbow Matte Blue/Green Square Cut

*I also wanted to get some Jet Black Seed Beads but between me selecting them and going to the cart to pay for at the end, they sold out! Next time I'll have to be quicker!

I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!

Make sure to check back for the finished pieces! They will also be available in my Etsy shop.

Adult Woman's Short Crochet Slouchy Hat with Visor - Pattern REVIEW

This Slouchy Hat is fun, comfy and different. This hat reminds me of when I used to be in marching band at Colonial High School. During summer band camp, the Tubas (yes! I was a Tuba player) used to have a hat we called Sparkles Magee. It was awarded to the Tuba player that won the challenge posed to us by our group instructor, and up for grabs each day with the new challenge.

The pattern is courtesy of Bernat yarns via Yarnspirations. It is easy and quick to work up - taking approximately an hour or so to complete. It is rated Intermediate, but don't let that scare you. It is rather easy!

The hat is made to fit the average lady's sized head. In my opinion, the hat is a tad bit too big. My head measures 21.5" around and this hat kept falling down. I'm planning on giving this hat and a scarf I put together myself to my niece, Kynara. She has lots of curly hair and I think the style will fit her well.
You can find the blog entry to the scarf HERE.

I will be making another set for myself (since I absolutely love everything about it!) but I will probably use a size L11/8mm crochet hook to make the hat hug my head, but still use the M13/9mm hook for the scarf.
Back of the Short Crochet Slouchy Hat

I strongly dislike visible seams. I did join the ends of the rows according to the pattern (as I usually change it up). I'm still feeling iffy on the seams, but it's not really noticeable. I may mess around with the pattern a little more the second go-around.

This was my first crochet hat made with a visor. I wasn't sure how well it would hold the form but the single crochets bring it together nicely.
This was also the first time I learned/used the reverse single crochet. The pattern attempts to explain the process, but I found this YouTube video courtesy of Tamara at Moogly to be quite helpful. The reverse single crochet adds a neat twisted, but finished look to the brim.

The pattern uses one of my favorite yarns, Bernat Softee Chunky. I used the color Natural, which is like a cream color. This yarn is soft, has a nice stretch to it, is warm, is strong, and comes in a variety of colors. It's chunkiness allows for projects to be worked up quickly. Your choice of color will depend of the number of balls necessary for each project as self striping colors tend to come as 80 grams, and most solid colors in 100 grams.

*If you've used Bernat Roving yarn before, you will notice there is a small similarity between these two texture and weight wise. For only $5.99, you can get a lot more yarn in a ball of the Bernat Roving yarn, however, I do prefer the Softee Chunky mainly because it is more durable as the Roving yarn pulls apart easily, but also because the Softee Chunky yarn is softer and more flexible, and I think overall just put together better. The Roving yarn also tends to tangle similar to that of the cord to a land line phone.

This Short Crochet Slouchy Hat with Visor can be found for purchase in my Etsy shop, along with a matching scarf I put together. You can found the blog entry for this here. There are lots of colors to choose from so if you'd like a different color, here you can find color options.

I welcome custom orders and/or adjustments, so please don't be shy to ask!
