Preemie TWIN Tri-Colored Striped Fall Hats - Free Crochet Pattern

I have been in a fall hat kind of mood. Here's a cute little twin hat set.

This hat set is perfect for twins - one boy and one girl!

This hat set is great for fall photo shoots as well as a fall baby shower gift.

Change up the colors, and this hat set is great for any time of the year!

You can easily make this a family hat set, or a mommy/daddy and me set! Simply use my Basic Beanie Pattern as a guide, or leave me a comment with your request and I shall work up the color changes.

I do plan on adding the other sizes here at a later time.

*This pattern was previously titled "Crochet Newborn Twin..."
Please see pattern notes regarding title change.

Materials:
     - Small amounts of 3 Skeins of Worsted Weight Yarn - I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in Brown, Yellow and Sungold.
     - H8/5mm Hook
     - Tapestry Needle - I like to use an #18

Time Spent:
Each one of these took about 45 minutes to complete. The basic beanie itself does not take that long, but the added colors leave additional ends to weave in.

Measurements:
Crown measures 3.75" in diameter to fit a head circumference of about 13.75", and is 4.25" long.

Gauge:
   Using 5mm Hook - 4" x 4"
Chain 17, DC into the 4th chain from hook, and into each chain across. (14 DC)
R2 - 8: Chain 2, turn. DC into the 2nd DC, and into each DC across. (14 DC)
     Fasten Off.

Abbreviations:
   CH - Chain
   DC - Double Crochet
   ea - each
   ST - stitch
   SC - Single Crochet
   SK - Skip

Pattern Notes:
To work my joins in the crown, I used the Seamless Round method also by Lorene of Cre8tion Crochet. This method is great for hiding your seam! My pattern is not phrased the correct way for using her method - it's phrased the old fashioned slip stitch to join way.

Join to the first Double Crochet, not the Chain 2.

Chain 2 does not count as a stitch.

I will be including the colors I used in my pattern, but feel free to change out the colors for whichever ones you like!

Change color in the last yarn over of the stitch.

10.24.14 UPDATE: My sister-in-law, Bree, is a family photographer who does LOTS of newborn photo shoots. Following the posting of my All Sizes Beanie pattern, I whipped out quite a few newborn sized hats (including this one) based on the chart provided by Lorene of Cre8tion Crochet. According to her, the newborn head circumference is 13-14" and the length should be 4" - 4.5". Upon completing my hats, I made a trip to her house to deliver them and she turned all of them away. She said they were sure not to fit any of the newborns that she photographs and that they would be better suited for preemie's. SO - my suggestion for a newborn size would be to make the 3-6 Month Size as that one is exactly what she liked and requested for future hats.
