Crochet Coasters in Rainbow Bright Ombre - FREE Pattern

After working up my Facial Scrubbies, I decided to make a set of coasters as well.

The more condensation these coasters soak up, the heavy they will get. Just lay flat to dry when you are finished. They will also help soak up a spill in a pinch.

While these are slightly bigger than the facial scrubbies I made, they will also work for your face.

Attach a scratchy scrubber to one side and these will work great for the dishes as well!

If you wanted to make these into a hot pad, I would recommend doubling the thickness by using two strands of yarn together and increasing up to 8" or so.
You could also make your coasters with the double strands, however, when I tried them this way, I found them to be a little too bulky for my drinks.

Materials:
   - Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn - I used about 50 yds of Lily Sugar n Cream in Rainbow Bright Ombre
*Bernat Handicrafter Yarn will also work great! Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton will work up a tad bit bigger.
   - 5.5mm Hook
   - Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
*You will want a larger size hook because cotton yarn isn't as flexible.

Time Spent:
I worked up the set of four in just under an hour.

Measurements:
   These coasters measure 4.25" across.

Abbreviations:
   CH - Chain
   HDC - Half Double Crochet
   ST - Stitch
   Sl St - Slip Stitch
   SC - Single Crochet

Pattern Notes:
This pattern is worked in a continuous motion but if you'd prefer not to, feel free to join at the end of each round and chain one at the beginning of the next.

The skipped stitch and final three slip stitches will help to even out your circle.

Pattern:

CH 5. Join to form a ring. CH 1, 10 HDC in ring. Pull center tail tight to close center hole.

Round 2:  2 HDC in ea HDC around. Join to first HDC with a Sl St. (20 HDC)

Round 3: 2 HDC in 1st HDC, HDC in next HDC, (2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next HDC) around. (30 HDC)

Round 5: 2 HDC in 1st HDC, HDC in next 2 HDC's, (2 HDC in next HDC, HDC in next 2 HDC's) around. (40 HDC)

Round 6: 2 SC in 1st HDC, SC in next 3 HDC's, (2 SC in next HDC, SC in next 3 HDC's) around. SK next ST, Sl St in the next 3 STs. (50 SC).

Fasten Off and Weave in Ends.
Please feel free to make and sell these coasters, but please DO NOT claim this pattern as your own nor should you sell my pattern, and DO NOT re-publish my photos as your own. DO NOT copy and paste my pattern anywhere, link to it instead.

Care Instructions:
Lily Sugar n Cream yarn is machine washable and dryable but I would recommend if not hand washing to machine wash on gentle and perhaps even in a lingerie bag, then lay flat to dry.
*Colors may fade in wash.
