Crochet Adult Granny Square Beanie in Pink Camo FREE PATTERN

As part of my camo series, this is the beanie to go with the Granny Square Scarf in Pink Camo.

Originally, I searched on YouTube for a video on a Granny Square beanie. I found the Granny Square Hat Crochet Tutorial courtesy of Clare from BobWilson123. I followed it as recommended but I had trouble with the stretch. I made my square to the correct size and then began making the sides. I ended up completing the entire hat, an increase round short to fit my head and then even then, it was TOO big to fit comfortably on my head. It is an interesting video though, and Clare has wonderful tutorials on her YouTube channel.

I had set the finished hat aside because I wasn't completely satisfied with it. I ended up sitting down today to redo the hat. I took out ALL of my yarn and started over...::sighs::...but here it is...

I started with this really GREAT Basic Beanie pattern I found via Pinterest. It is courtesy of Sarah from Family Bugs, and has from size preemie to adult large (male), and uses a J hook on all but one size beanie, and it uses double crochet for a quick work up!

I followed the pattern for the adult small (woman) up to the end of Round 6. I then wandered. Here is the rest:

Materials:
1 ball of worsted weight yarn - I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in Pink Camo
    Size J10/6mm hook
Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends

I didn't pay attention to how long it took to complete the crown part but I am going to assume about 30 minutes (or less). Each round of the granny square took roughly 3 minutes each, and the last two rounds took about a minute and a half each for a total of about an hour or so.

Abbreviation:
    CH - Chain
    DC - Double Crochet
    sp - space
    sk - skip
    dc2tog - Double Crochet Decrease
    SC - Single Crochet

Finished Hat Measurements:
    22" circumference by 7.5" long.

Pattern (started aftering completing the last increase round):
Rnd 7: CH 2. 2 DC in same sp as join. (CH 1. sk 2 DCs, 3 DC in next DC) 16 times. CH 1. sk 2 DCs, dc2tog, 2 DC in same st. CH 1. Join to top of CH 2.
Rnd 8-15: sl st over to CH-1 sp. CH 2. 2 DC in same CH-1 sp. CH 1. (3 DC in next CH-1 sp. CH 1.) around. Join to top of CH 2.
Rnd 16: CH 1. SC in same sp as join, and in each of the DCs and CH-1 sps.
Rnd 17: CH 1. SC in same sp as join, and in each SC around.
Fasten off.

*If you'd like you're hat a little longer, add an extra round or two of the granny square. Each row with increase the length by 0.5".
